The school psychologist/ director of support services is directly responsible for the support of students’s academic, social, emotional, and behavioral domains utilizing holistic problem-solving, pedagogical design, and evaluations. The school psychologist is a liaison between the support services department (consisting of mental health counselors and speech and language pathologists) and faculty/ administration. She/he is a resource to faculty by offering suggestions to help with academic, social, or behavioral concerns. She/he is familiar with the educational past of every student in the school and develops individual learning plans for each student. Further, she/he has the ability to complete additional testing as needed.

The school psychologist creates and delivers campus-wide programming that maximizes students’ social, emotional, and educational success. She/he assesses and provides mental health support in times of crisis, including but not limited to safety assessments. She/he assists the director of college counseling to secure accommodations and deliver college entrance exams.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate degree in education with the potential of earning a doctoral degree within the next two years.
  • Valid Massachusetts DESE license in school psychology.
  • Knowledge of methods of assessment; including processes to collect data and translate assessment results into pedagogy. 
  • Knowledge of behavioral mental health, collaborative and/or consultation models and methods, and their application.
  • Ability to run campus-wide and targeted wellness programs.
  • Knowledge of learning diversity and learning processes, differentiated instruction to meet various students’ needs, and the ability to implement and assess their effectiveness.
  • Knowledge of various standardized testing for college entrance and appropriate accommodations for equal access to the exams.
  • Ability to work hours outside of the typical school day.

Responsibilities –
Job specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

To provide evaluations, consultation, intervention, and prevention to aid in the improvement of the educational experience of students.

Educational Leadership

  • Maintains the integrity of the school’s mission within the educational program
  • Works with faculty to determine the needs of individual students and to design instruction to meet those needs
  • Counsels faculty in the area of interpreting cognitive testing and developing differentiated instruction

Partnership with Academic, Student Life, and Admissions Administration

  • Confers with assistant head for academics about current educational or mental health practice and research
  • Advises assistant heads for academics and student life about any student, faculty, or parent issues or concerns
  • Reviews testing and files to aid in admission decisions

Counseling and Therapeutic Support

  • Provides counseling and evaluation support to EHS students on a twelve-month basis
  • Provides crisis management for students on a short-term, as-needed basis
  • Functions as the liaison to independent counselors working with EHS students on campus, including scheduling and general administration of the counseling programs at EHS
  • Designs and implements group counseling as appropriate for students at EHS.
  • Aids in the evaluation of a student’s return from medical leave as it relates to mental health
  • Acts as a liaison between the school and a student’s mental health provider if applicable

College and Cognitive Testing

  • Assists the director of college counseling in administration of the ACT and SAT, specifically to prepare all students’ requests for accommodations on standardized testing, to schedule ACT and SAT testing
  • Researches appropriate products and administer standardized testing to the lower school (grades 8, 9, 10)
